Description

Acetal(POM-C) Sheet are versatile polymers known for their excellent impact resistance, dimensional stability, and high mechanical strength. They naturally offer lubricity and an exceptionally hard surface. With low moisture absorption, their strength properties remain unaffected in various environments. Acetals also feature high dielectric strength and resistance to many solvents, making them ideal for diverse applications. Their wide working temperature range of -45°C to +100°C further enhances their usability.

Key Features

  • Excellent impact resistance and durability.
  • Superior dimensional stability and surface hardness.
  • High dielectric strength and resistance to solvents.
  • Minimal moisture absorption, ensuring consistent performance.
  • Suitable for use in high-temperature water applications when using copolymer grades.

Applications

Acetals are widely used in the food industry (though not all grades are F.D.A.-approved) and for making components like bearings, gears, bushings, and wear-resistant parts.

Polymer Types

  • Homopolymer: Delrin®
  • Copolymer: Celcon® / Hostaform®

Frequently Asked Questions

What is acetal sheet (POM-C) and what is it used for?

Acetal sheet, also known as POM-C, is an engineering plastic sheet used for precision machined components. Common uses include wear pads, guide rails, machine parts, gears, and sliding components. It offers low friction, good strength, and dimensional stability, making it suitable for industrial and mechanical applications.

What is the difference between black and white acetal sheet?

Black and white POM-C acetal sheets have similar mechanical properties. White acetal is commonly used for general engineering and food-related applications where visual cleanliness matters. Black acetal often includes carbon additives that improve UV resistance and make it better suited for outdoor or exposed environments.

What thicknesses and sheet sizes are available in acetal sheet?

Acetal sheet is typically available in a wide range of thicknesses, from thin precision sheets to heavy-duty engineering grades. Standard sheet sizes are commonly supplied, with availability depending on thickness and colour. Sheets can usually be cut to size to suit machining or fabrication requirements.

Is POM-C acetal sheet easy to machine?

Yes. Acetal sheet machines cleanly using standard metalworking tools. It can be milled, drilled, tapped, and CNC machined with good dimensional accuracy and surface finish. POM-C produces minimal burrs and is suitable for tight-tolerance components used in mechanical and wear applications.

How durable is acetal sheet in industrial use?

POM-C acetal sheet is highly durable in wear and sliding applications. It resists fatigue, maintains stiffness over time, and has low moisture absorption, helping parts retain their shape. It is not designed for high-temperature structural use and should be operated within recommended temperature limits.

Is POM-C acetal sheet chemically and moisture resistant?

POM-C offers good resistance to fuels, oils, greases, and many common chemicals. It has very low moisture absorption, which helps maintain dimensional stability. It is not suitable for strong acids, oxidising agents, or continuous exposure to high temperatures or direct UV without protection.
