Frequently Asked Questions

How do you cut perspex or acrylic sheet?
Thin acrylic up to 3mm can be scored deeply with a knife and snapped along a straight edge. Thicker sheet is best cut with a fine-tooth circular saw or jigsaw at moderate speed, supporting the sheet close to the cut to prevent chipping. Easier still, order it cut to size: we laser cut acrylic to the millimetre with polished edges, so it arrives ready to install.
What is perspex, and is it the same as acrylic?
Perspex is a brand name for acrylic sheet (PMMA), the same way Plexiglas is. Perspex, acrylic, and plexiglass all refer to the same material: a glass-clear plastic that is around half the weight of glass and far more impact resistant.
How strong is acrylic sheet compared to glass?
Acrylic has roughly 10 to 20 times the impact resistance of glass at half the weight. It does not shatter into dangerous shards, which is why it replaces glass in balustrades, splashbacks, machine guards, and anywhere safety matters.
What thicknesses and colours are available?
We stock clear acrylic from 1.5mm to 25mm, plus white, black, opal, tints, mirror, and a wide colour range. Every sheet can be cut to your exact dimensions using the online pricing calculator.
Can acrylic sheet be used outdoors?
Yes. Cast acrylic is UV stable and will not yellow in Australian sun, which makes it the standard choice for outdoor signage, privacy screens, and glazing. It handles coastal and high-UV environments far better than most clear plastics.
How do you clean perspex without scratching it?
Use warm soapy water and a soft microfibre cloth, then rinse and pat dry. Avoid ammonia-based glass cleaners, solvents, and paper towel, which cause micro-scratches and clouding. Light scratches can be polished out with a plastic polish.
Can you bend or shape acrylic?
Yes. Acrylic line-bends cleanly with gentle heat, and we offer heat bending, CNC routing, and fabrication for brackets, covers, trays, and display pieces. Send us a drawing and we will quote the finished part.
Where can I buy perspex cut to size in Australia?
Right here. Enter your dimensions in our pricing calculator for an instant price, choose delivery or Gold Coast pickup, and we dispatch Australia-wide. Trade quantities and full sheets are also available.
What is the difference between cast and extruded acrylic?
Cast acrylic has better optical clarity, machines and polishes more cleanly, and is more resistant to solvents and crazing. Extruded acrylic is cheaper and fine for general glazing. We stock cast acrylic for cut-to-size work because it gives the best finished result.
Do you deliver acrylic and perspex cut to size across Australia?
Yes. We cut your sheet to size at our Gold Coast workshop and deliver Australia wide, including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, plus regional areas. Prefer to collect in person? Pickup is available at our Gold Coast facility.
