Frequently Asked Questions

What is Uniboard ECO / Foamlite?

Uniboard ECO (now branded Foamlite by Dotmar) is a closed-cell foamed polypropylene (PP) sheet with solid skins on both sides. It features a scratch-resistant embossed surface and is designed as a lightweight, durable replacement for timber and other traditional sheet materials.

What are the main advantages over timber?

Uniboard ECO does not absorb moisture, will not rot, swell or delaminate, and is resistant to most chemicals. It can be fastened, screwed and fixed using the same methods as timber. It is also significantly lighter and fully recyclable.

Can Uniboard ECO be used outdoors?

Yes. The material has good UV resistance and zero moisture absorption, making it suitable for outdoor applications including signage, cladding, furniture and marine fittings.

How do you cut and fabricate Uniboard ECO?

Uniboard ECO can be cut with standard woodworking tools including circular saws, jigsaws, routers and CNC machines. It can be screwed, riveted, stapled and glued. It can also be thermoformed and welded using hot air or extrusion welding.

Is Uniboard ECO food safe?

No. Uniboard ECO is not food grade and is not approved for drinking water contact. For food-safe applications, consider solid polypropylene sheet.

What applications is Uniboard ECO best suited for?

Common applications include outdoor furniture, playground equipment, marina and boat fittings, agricultural equipment, animal housing, signage panels, shopfitting, transit cases, vehicle linings, and general construction where a rot-proof, moisture-immune panel is needed.

What is the difference between Uniboard ECO and solid polypropylene sheet?

Uniboard ECO has a foamed core with solid skins, making it significantly lighter than solid PP while maintaining good structural strength. Solid PP sheet is denser and has higher mechanical properties but is heavier. Uniboard ECO is better suited for panel and cladding applications where weight savings matter.

What colours and sizes are available?

Uniboard ECO is available in Black Textured and White Textured with a scratch-resistant embossed finish. Standard sheet size is 2440 x 1220mm in thicknesses of 10mm, 12mm, 15mm and 19mm.
