Keep Network Switches Protected Without Losing Access

Network switches mounted in open cupboards, under-desk locations or retail back-of-house areas are exposed to dust, spills and accidental bumps that a bare unit was never designed to handle. A simple plastic cover stops debris and liquid getting into the vents and ports without needing to relocate or re-house the switch.

Because the cover sits over the top and sides rather than sealing the unit shut, the switch keeps drawing air normally and stays easy to reach for cabling changes, firmware resets or troubleshooting.

This makes plastic covers popular with IT installers doing retrofit jobs in schools, offices and retail fitouts, where relocating the switch to a lockable cabinet is not practical or budgeted for.

Clear vs Frosted: Choosing a Cover Material

Clear acrylic sheet lets you see status and activity LEDs at a glance, which is useful in comms cupboards where a technician needs to check link lights without removing the cover. It machines to a sharp, clean edge and takes printed or engraved labelling well.

Frosted acrylic is a better fit for switches mounted in customer-facing areas such as reception desks or retail counters, where you want to hide the cabling and blinking lights behind a cleaner, matte panel while still allowing some light through.

Cutouts for Ports, LEDs and Cable Runs

Every cover can be laser-cut with cutouts matched to your switch's port layout, mounting screws and cable entry points, so cables run cleanly through the cover instead of around it.

We can also laser-etch port numbers or cable labels directly into the plastic, giving you a permanent, professional label set that will not peel off like printed labels do over time.

Sizing a Cover for Any Switch or Patch Panel

Send us the make and model of your switch, or simply the length, width and height you need covered, and we will cut a cover to match. Standard 8, 16, 24 and 48 port switches are all straightforward to size.

For patch panels and multi-unit racks we can cut a single cover to span several devices, reducing the number of separate parts you need to install and remove.

If you are ordering covers for multiple sites with the same switch model, we can cut a batch run so every location gets an identical, drop-in fit.

Data Switch Covers FAQ

Will a cover cause my switch to overheat?
No, when sized correctly a cover sits clear of the vents and side panels, so airflow around the switch is not restricted.
Can you match cutouts to my exact switch model?
Yes, tell us the make and model or send measurements and we will cut ports, mounting holes and cable entries to suit.
Clear or frosted, which should I choose?
Clear acrylic suits comms cupboards where you want to see status LEDs, while frosted acrylic suits customer-facing areas where a cleaner look matters more than visibility of the switch itself.
Can you cover a patch panel as well as a switch?
Yes, we can cut a single cover to span a patch panel and switch mounted together, or separate covers for each.
What thickness is used for switch covers?
Most covers use 3mm acrylic or polycarbonate, which is rigid enough to hold its shape while remaining light and easy to lift off.
