Why Cafes and Restaurants Choose Acrylic Menu Boards
A well-made menu board needs to survive daily wipe-downs, changing specials, and constant handling near a busy counter, which is exactly where acrylic sheet earns its keep. It is far more durable than printed card or laminated paper, and unlike whiteboard or chalkboard material it can be cut into any custom shape to match a shopfitting or brand identity.
Acrylic menu boards can be printed, engraved, or fitted with a dry-erase writable surface, giving cafes and restaurants the flexibility to update daily specials without reprinting a whole board.
Chalkboard-Style and Backlit Menu Options
Perspex Opal sheet is a popular choice for backlit menu boards above a counter, glowing evenly when lit from behind an LED panel and giving a modern, illuminated look that stands out after dark. Tinted acrylic in black or dark grey gives a premium chalkboard look while still being cleanable and durable, and fluorescent acrylic can be used for bold specials boards that need to catch the eye from across a food court.
Clear acrylic is also widely used for table-top menu stands and stand-up display holders, giving customers a durable menu that survives spills.
Sizing and Mounting a Menu Board
Menu boards are typically cut from 3-6mm acrylic sheet depending on size, with larger wall-mounted boards benefiting from the extra rigidity of 5mm sheet to avoid sagging. We cut mounting holes, standoff points, or slot-in frame edges to match your existing menu board frame or shopfitting system.
For chain and franchise customers, we can produce identical menu boards across multiple sites from a single approved template.
Digital and Hybrid Menu Board Systems
Some venues combine a fixed acrylic board for permanent menu items with a smaller changeable panel for daily specials, giving the best of both worlds: a premium, permanent look for the core menu and flexibility for rotating items without reprinting the main board. Acrylic frames with removable insert panels make this easy to manage without tools.
For venues transitioning to digital menus, acrylic surrounds and frames can be fabricated to house a screen while maintaining the same clean, branded aesthetic as a traditional acrylic menu board, keeping the shopfit looking cohesive rather than bolting a bare monitor to the wall.
Keeping Menu Boards Looking Sharp
Acrylic menu boards clean up easily with a soft cloth and a plastic-safe cleaner, and light scuffs from daily wipe-downs can be buffed out with polish compound rather than needing a full replacement. Keeping boards away from abrasive scourers will extend their life significantly.
Contact us with your board size and any branding requirements and we will quote a cut, printed, or writable menu board ready to hang.
