Common questions

How much does a sheet of acrylic weigh?

A full 2440 × 1220 mm sheet of 3 mm acrylic weighs about 10.6 kg, and the same sheet in 10 mm weighs about 35.4 kg. The table above lists every common thickness.

How do you work out the weight of acrylic sheet?

Multiply the area in square metres by the thickness in millimetres, then by 1.19. For example, 1 m × 0.5 m × 6 mm is 0.5 × 6 × 1.19 = 3.57 kg.

Is acrylic lighter than glass?

Yes. Glass is roughly 2.5 g/cm³ and acrylic about 1.19 g/cm³, so an acrylic panel weighs a little under half as much as the same panel in glass.

Is cast acrylic heavier than extruded acrylic?

Not in any way that matters for handling or freight. Both are close to 1.19 g/cm³. Cast sheet can run slightly thicker or thinner than its nominal size, which changes the real weight more than the type does.
