Description

Acrifix 192 is a high-quality, one-component UV-curing adhesive specifically designed for bonding clear acrylic (PMMA) materials. It is widely used in applications requiring strong, transparent bonds, such as in signage, display cases, aquariums, and model making.

Key Features

  • UV-Curing: Polymerizes upon exposure to UV light, allowing for controlled curing times.
  • Clear Finish: Dries to a clear, bubble-free bond, maintaining the transparency of acrylic materials.
  • Strong Bond: Provides high-strength adhesion suitable for both edge and surface bonding.
  • Versatile Application: Ideal for use with cast and extruded acrylic sheets, as well as other clear plastics like polycarbonate and polystyrene.

Technical Specifications

  • Viscosity: 1800 ± 200 mPa·s
  • Density: ~1.02 g/cm³
  • Refractive Index: ~1.44
  • Color: Clear, slightly purple
  • Solids Content: 32 ± 2%
  • Shelf Life: 2 years when stored properly
  • Curing Time:
  • Sunlight: 10–20 minutes
  • UV-A Lamp: 10–30 minutes
  • Ambient Light: 1.5–3 hours

Application Guidelines

  • Surface Preparation: Clean and degrease bonding surfaces thoroughly. For best results, roughen surfaces with 230–320 grit sandpaper.
  • Adhesive Application: Apply Acrifix 192 directly from the tube or using a dispenser, ensuring even coverage and avoiding air bubbles.
  • Assembly: Align and fix the parts in place, ensuring no movement during the curing process.
  • Curing: Expose the assembly to an appropriate light source based on the desired curing time.
  • Post-Curing: For enhanced strength and weather resistance, anneal the bonded parts at 70–80°C for 2–4 hours.

Safety Precautions

  • Flammability: Contains methyl methacrylate; keep away from heat and open flames.
  • Ventilation: Use in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhalation of fumes.
  • Protective Equipment: Wear suitable gloves and eye protection during application.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acrifix glue used for?

Acrifix glue is a solvent-based adhesive used to bond acrylic (PMMA) sheets and components. It is commonly used in fabrication, signage, displays, shopfitting, and acrylic glazing where a clear, strong, and permanent bond is required.

What materials can Acrifix glue bond?

Acrifix glue is designed specifically for acrylic (PMMA). It is not suitable for bonding polycarbonate, PVC, PETG, or other plastics. For best results, both surfaces should be clean, dry, and made from compatible acrylic materials.

Does Acrifix glue dry clear?

Yes. Acrifix cures to a clear, near-invisible bond line when applied correctly. This makes it suitable for applications where appearance is critical, such as display cases, signage, and clear acrylic fabrications.

How is Acrifix glue applied?

Acrifix is typically applied using capillary action with a needle applicator or syringe. The parts must be accurately positioned before application, as the solvent quickly penetrates the joint and begins bonding almost immediately.

How long does Acrifix glue take to cure?

Initial handling strength is usually achieved within minutes, but full strength develops over several hours. Cure time varies depending on the specific Acrifix product, joint thickness, and ambient temperature.
