Why choose PVC-GLAS Transparent Clear Sheet?

What PVC-GLAS is

PVC-GLAS is SIMONA's transparent grade of rigid PVC. It is manufactured as a stiff, glass-clear panel rather than the translucent or tinted sheet most people picture when they think of PVC, and it transmits up to around 88 per cent of visible light. That clarity is the reason to choose it. In every other respect it behaves like the rigid PVC our customers already know: it machines cleanly, it holds its shape under load, and it stands up to a wide range of workshop chemicals.

It should not be confused with two other products that share the name. Flexible PVC-Glas, often sold as soft glass, is a pliable transparent sheet or roll used for table covers and tent windows. PVC coated glass fibre is a woven architectural fabric used for sunshades and acoustic panels. Neither is stocked here. Everything on this page is the rigid grade.

Key properties

  • Clarity: transmits up to around 88 per cent of visible light, so it can be genuinely seen through rather than merely letting light past.
  • Chemical durability: resists many acids, oils and common cleaning agents, which is what keeps it serviceable on a factory floor.
  • Fire performance: rated low flammability and self extinguishing by SIMONA.
  • Impact behaviour: it does not shatter into fragments the way glass does.
  • Machinability: cuts, drills and routs with standard plastics tooling, and bonds with solvent cements made for rigid PVC.

Where it is used

  • Machine guarding and safety glazing where an operator needs a clear view of the work.
  • Viewing windows and inspection panels in enclosures, cabinets and control boxes.
  • Protective screens, counter dividers and workshop partitions.
  • Boat windows, tents and covers where clarity matters as much as weather resistance.
  • Desk covers and protective table mats.

How it differs from our standard clear PVC

We stock a standard clear rigid PVC sheet alongside this line, and for many jobs it is the sensible choice. The difference is optical. PVC-GLAS is manufactured for clarity and it costs more because of it. If the sheet is acting as a barrier and nobody needs to read a gauge through it, the standard grade will do the job for less. If somebody has to see through it properly, this is the one to specify.

Sizes and supply

PVC-GLAS transparent clear is stocked in 4.5mm and 6mm, both in full 2440 x 1220 sheets. It is a speciality line supplied as full sheets only, so it is not available through our online cut to size calculator. If you need it cut, drilled or polished, contact us and we will quote the fabrication directly. Other thicknesses can usually be brought in on indent.

Prices shown are ex GST. As plastics specialists we also design and manufacture finished parts, so if PVC-GLAS is going into an assembly rather than being bought as raw sheet, talk to us about the whole job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is PVC-GLAS the same as standard clear PVC?
No. PVC-GLAS is a premium grade made by SIMONA with markedly better optical clarity than the standard clear rigid PVC we stock. Both are rigid PVC and share similar chemical resistance and handling, but PVC-GLAS is chosen where the sheet genuinely needs to be seen through, such as a machine viewing window. Our standard clear PVC remains the better value choice where clarity matters less.
Can I order PVC-GLAS cut to size?
Not through the website. PVC-GLAS is a speciality grade supplied in full 2440 x 1220 sheets, so it is not offered in our online cut to size calculator. If you need cut pieces, contact us and we will quote the fabrication directly.
What thicknesses are available?
We stock PVC-GLAS transparent clear in 4.5mm and 6mm, both in 2440 x 1220 sheets. Other thicknesses can usually be brought in on indent, so please ask if you need something outside this range.
How does it compare with clear acrylic or polycarbonate?
Acrylic has the best optical clarity and is the usual choice for display work. Polycarbonate is the impact specialist. PVC-GLAS sits between them on clarity and ahead of both on resistance to many acids and solvents, which is why it turns up in chemical handling areas and on machinery where cleaning agents are in daily use.
